For as long as I can remember, the South Florida ISSA Chapter has been hosting an annual Hack the Flag/Chili Cookoff. We have a 'capture the flag' event, where teams work against each other to hack a system and collect 'flags'. We've accompanied this with a chili cookoff (along with food and drinks), as not everyone does the CTF. Most years we've had some kind of theme (russian, brazilian, asian, etc), and the last few we've had t-shirts. Over the years we've been in a few different places (I can recall 5 different ones). A couple of years ago we added a lockpick village as well.
Our event was bigger last year as we were celebrating our 15th Anniversary. We had a bounce house and some other things.
Well, we are in the middle of planning the event for 2016, and things are shaping up to be bigger then last year.
This year we will be hosted at FIU's Graham Center on their main campus. Due to the location we had to move the date from August to Saturday, September 10th.
We will again have Rod Soto of Kommand && KonTroll doing the CTF game. We are working on getting a beginners game for those getting into the CTFs. We plan on again having a lockpick village. We plan on having t-shirts. We have an interesting theme cooking up.
We are also looking at some additional things this year.
Due to the location, we plan on kicking off the event with some speakers. And we are looking at giving our vendors (who help fund the event) a chance to make present their products.
We are also looking at something different in handling the alcohol this year. Been really neat.
As we finalize things we will be opening up registration on Eventbrite and getting more info on all the elements of the event. If you want to sponsor, let us know. If you want to help out, let us know.
UPDATED: Registration is OPEN NOW on Eventbrite. Register HERE.
